The Carillon
The Carillon, with the support of the National Capital Authority, and other key icons in Canberra around Lake Burley Griffin will be lit in UN blue between 16 and 23 June to cooincide with the lighting of the Jet d'eau in Geneva to mark World Refugee Day.

World Refugee Day Breakfast 2008

Special guest the Hon Maxine Mckew, Member for Bennelong, will join other guest speakers at a fundraising breakfast to support UNHCR’s humanitarian relief work.

NSW Parliament House, in Macquarie Street Sydney, will be lit in UN blue on June 20, to coincide with the similar lightings of key icons in the Parliamentary Zone in Canberra and in Geneva, where UNHCR headquarters is based.
Triumphant International will host the Australian Refugee Film Festival -- a series of short films made by refugees living.

Voice Arts Trust, Supported by UNHCR
A series of workshops is underway with 13 young refugees who will create, produce and record their own radio programme to air on Wellington’s Access Radio and a podcast on 20 June. The young people are exploring the global theme of protection as well as sharing their own stories of resettlement. The programme will feature poems, drama, song, interviews and storytelling. The project is being run by Voice Arts Trust with the support of UNHCR and the NZ Government.

Following on from the success of last year's soccer game, the Wellington Invitational Xl versus World Refugee All Stars Xl. Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast will be opening the game, and the Hon Annette King will present the Trophy to the winning team.
Auckland
World Refugee Day - Pacific and Refugee Communities Event
Members of Refugee Services Aotearoa, the Pacific Board, the Auckland Refugee Coalition and Refugees as Survivors have collaborated to produce a cross-cultural event for Pacific and refugee communities living in the Mt Roskill/Wesley area. This is a gathering desgined to honour the refugee experience, and share its meaning with refugee communities' pacific neighbours. Communities from refugee and pacific backgrounds will be coming together on to share cultural music, dance, food, and stories. Supported by the Mt Roskill Community Board and the Auckland City Council.

World Refugee Day Combined Schools Event
Students from Refugee backgrounds living all around Auckland will be coming to an event organised by schools and Refugee Services Aotearoa and the Refugee Quota Branch of Immigration.

Waitakere Libraries World Refugee Day Publication
Waitakere Libraries are releasing a publication with four stories from refugees living in New Zealand from Burundi, Burmese Chin, and Afghani backgrounds. The publication also gives information on refugee service providers, such as Refugee Services, Refugees as Survivors, Settlement Support and ESOL Home Tutors.
World Refugee Day Manukau City
Refugee communities who live in the Manukau area will be coming together to share stories and cultural music and performances at an event hosted by Manukau City in association with Refugee Services Aotearoa and the Refugee Quota Branch.

Tree Planting
There will be a number of 'tree planting' events through the regions (Hamilton, Palmerston North, Hutt City, Porirua, Nelson, Christchurch) as a very symbolic event. communities with a refugee background are rebuilding their lives in a new environment (putting down roots) and with the care and support from staff, volunteers, other agencies, and the wider host community are being assisted to resettle, prosper and grow.

UNHCR PNG is hosting an Exhibition of Drawings and Photographs by refugee children in East Awin, Western Province, PNG at a special World Refugee Day reception at the Crowne Plaza in Port Moresby.
