Fiji has been
a signatory to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status
of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol relating to the status
of refugees since 12 June 1972. National legislation implementing these obligations
are contained in the Immigration Act 2003 and regulations subsequently endorsed by Cabinet in August 2006. The regulations are expected to come into effect shortly.
