Australia
is a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967
Protocol relating to the status of refugees. It has long-established
systems for determining refugee status which are administered
by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA).
New Zealand
New
Zealand is a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and
the 1967 Protocol relating to the status of refugees. Refugee
Status Determination is carried out by the Refugee Status
Branch of the New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS).
Papua
New Guinea
Papua New Guinea is a signatory
to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees
and the 1967 Protocol relating to the status of refugees.
At present, however, there is no national legislation
in place.
Fiji
Fiji
is a signatory to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status
of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol relating to the status
of refugees. National legislation implementing these obligations
has been passed and regulations are currently being developed.
